John Daly established a notable moment on the green this Friday, although likely one he would rather forget. Daly encountered significant difficulty during the PGA Tour Champions event at Sanford International in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, concluding one particular hole with a score of 19.

This Friday’s challenging round led to a new high (or low) for Daly, both professionally and personally. Reflecting back to 1998, Daly required 18 attempts to complete the well-known par-5 sixth hole at Bay Hill. This hole is designed around a substantial lake, tempting some golfers to aim directly across it with their driver.

This past Friday, Daly found himself marking a 19 on his scorecard for the par-5 12th hole at Minnehaha Country Club.

While the course lacks a precise shot-tracking system, anecdotal accounts indicate Daly lost seven golf balls to the water hazard. Once he successfully cleared the water, he managed to get the ball onto the green and into the hole from the nearby rough in two strokes, resulting in the 19. He officially recorded an 88, which was 18 strokes over par and nine strokes more than the player with the next highest score. To clarify, Daly completed the remaining 17 holes with a score of 4-over par.

Daly’s score surpasses a previous three-way tie for the most strokes on a single hole, with Bruce Crampton’s score from the 1996 Grand Rapids Open being the most recent example.

He was competing alongside Stephen Ames and Angel Cabrera, a two-time major tournament champion.
