In the realm of sports card commerce, a groundbreaking sale has captured attention. As reported by The Athletic, a graded 2007 Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant dual-autograph card was acquired for $12.9 million, establishing a new benchmark in the collectible market.
This singular “1-of-1” logo man card, originating from Upper Deck Exquisite, showcases dual NBA logos, portraits of Bryant and Jordan, and authentic autographs from two of basketball’s all-time greats.
The online bidding for this card, which received a PSA grade of 6, concluded on Sunday morning via Heritage Auctions’ exclusive “Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction.” The purchaser’s identity remains undisclosed.
“The appeal for this particular card is remarkably high, which is logical, considering its comprehensive features, including images, fragments of game-worn jerseys, and signatures from two legendary figures who graced the court,” stated Chris Ivy, Heritage’s director of sports auctions. “The showcased Dual Logoman card is unique in that it exclusively features Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, rendering it the most coveted piece from the remarkable Upper Deck Logoman series. Furthermore, given Kobe Bryant’s unfortunate passing in 2020, it will forever remain the only one of its kind.”
The estimated value before the auction was set at $6 million, but this valuation was rapidly surpassed during the listing, with numerous bids exceeding that figure. According to CNN, the previous record for a sports card was $12.6 million, paid in 2022 for a pristine 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle baseball card.
Prior to the Mantle rookie card, a collector acquired a Honus Wagner card for $6.6 million in 2021. The Jordan-Bryant sale represents more than twice the value of the prior most expensive basketball card, which was Steph Curry’s Logoman from his 2009-10 rookie season, sold earlier for $5.9 million.
Commemorating “Mamba Day” on Sunday, August 24, Nike replenished stocks of various Protro edition sneakers associated with Bryant from earlier releases. These encompassed the Kobe VI Los Angeles Dodgers and the Kobe VIII What The Kobe color schemes.
