Jordyn Tyson Activated from IR, Set to Play Against Browns

Here we go — the New Orleans Saints have activated wide receiver Jordyn Tyson from injured reserve on Saturday, which means that the rookie first-round draft selection is set to make his debut on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. In a corresponding move, running back Kendre Miller was released. Tyson was sidelined for the first seven games as well as most of the preseason due to a hamstring injury, but he has now been cleared to participate in his first NFL matchup. His coach at Arizona State, Hines Ward, has a special message ready for him once Tyson makes his first NFL reception.

At 22 years old, Tyson was selected eighth overall with the aim of enhancing the New Orleans passing game and providing second-year quarterback Tyler Shough with an additional deep-threat option. Chris Olave continues to be the leading wide receiver for the team, and initially, Tyson might be positioned behind Devaughn Vele as he begins to acclimate to the game. However, it shouldn’t be long before Shough starts to target him. If the Saints are wise, they will have a set of designed plays prepared for the rookie to help him build his confidence and make an impact on the field.

New Orleans is cultivating a strong wide receiver group. Olave, Vaughn, and Tyson are clearly the top three choices, while rookie draft selections Bryce Lance and Barion Brown work to establish themselves lower on the depth chart. Currently, the practice squad features Kevin Austin Jr. and Cedric Tillman (both of whom have reached their limit for single-game elevations), along with Jalen Cropper. Let’s hope that everyone can maintain their health during the latter part of the season and help this offense get back on track.
