Every one of the 32 teams in the National Football League have convened for preseason training, and there’s an abundance of interest and developing narratives thus far.
The day began with concerns for the Jaguars, as quarterback Trevor Lawrence was taken off the practice field with a foot injury, according to head coach Doug Pederson. The extent of the injury is currently unknown.
Pederson expressed confidence in C.J. Beathard, who has 12 starts and has passed for 3,221 yards and 18 touchdowns with 10 interceptions, and also rushed for 267 yards and two touchdowns.

Should Lawrence be forced to be sidelined for an extended period, the Jaguars might also consider exploring the veteran market, either through free agency or a potential trade. Gardner Minshew is among the quarterbacks unlikely to start this year, so the Jaguars might consider a trade with the Raiders. The runner-up of the Tyler Huntley-Anthony Richardson QB competition could become available via trade too. There are numerous possibilities.
Additional key developments we’re closely monitoring …

Coach Shane Steichen desires a resolution to the Colts’ quarterback question “in the near future.” The opening practice session of training camp on Wednesday featured Tyler Huntley and Anthony Richardson alternating first-team reps, while Sam Ehlinger and Kedon Slovis shared the second-team reps. Huntley currently appears to be the frontrunner, but there is ample time for Richardson and others to gain ground.

Have the Seahawks already formulated a plan for Geno Smith’s eventual departure? The indication appears to be affirmative, with quarterback Quinn Ewers from Texas as a possible successor. Yahoo Sports’ Matt Harmon engaged with head coach Pete Carroll and the Seahawks at training camp, and there is considerable acclaim for the Longhorns’ sophomore.

Defensive ends Trey Hendrickson and Shemar Stewart persist in their holdout from the Bengals due to disagreements over their contracts, and two prominent players spoke about it on Wednesday. Quarterback Joe Burrow commented that it’s “certainly disappointing” that the issues remain unresolved, and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase conveyed to Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein that “there are many strong emotions involved.”
