This week’s event at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, known as The Annika, is drawing additional interest due to the participation of two individuals not typically associated with the LPGA Tour. Caitlin Clark, a prominent figure in the WNBA, joined Nelly Korda for the pro-am event on Wednesday. Additionally, Kai Trump, the 18-year-old granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, has been granted a sponsor’s exemption to participate in this week’s tournament.

Prior to competing in her inaugural professional tournament, Trump officially committed to the University of Miami’s women’s golf program, fulfilling her pledge to join the Hurricanes in the upcoming academic year.

“The coaches are wonderful, and it is close to my family’s home. It is also a fantastic academic institution,” Trump stated during her press conference on Tuesday. “I am very fond of the people there. Several of my relatives have also attended the university, so I am acquainted with individuals who have studied there. It is a truly excellent university, and I am excited to play golf for them.”

The University of Miami is making preparations for the amplified visibility that will accompany the participation of the former president’s granddaughter on the team — especially considering Kai Trump’s considerable presence on social media.

“Any potential increase in exposure is seen by us as advantageous for the Miami golf program,” Janice Olivencia, the Hurricanes coach, conveyed to the Associated Press. “Our current group of players consists of highly composed and academically gifted young women. Consequently, we are confident that we will manage any heightened attention with considerable poise and enthusiasm.”

Trump currently holds the 461st position in the American Junior Golf Association rankings, having participated in three AJGA competitions this season. Before commencing in an LPGA Tour event, Trump received some insightful guidance from Tiger Woods, who is in a relationship with her mother, Vanessa Trump.

“In my view, he is the premier golfer on a global scale, without question. Furthermore, he is an exceptional human being,” Trump remarked on Tuesday. “He advised me to simply enjoy myself and remain adaptable to any unfolding circumstances. Whatever occurs, occurs.”
