Katie Taylor Wins Trilogy Over Serrano in Close Fight

Amanda Serrano remains unable to defeat Katie Taylor.

In a Saturday night spectacle at Madison Square Garden, New York City, Taylor defended her undisputed super lightweight title against Serrano for the third occasion. Just as before, the Irish champion emerged victorious, securing a majority decision after a hard-fought 10 rounds.

The initial pair of Taylor-Serrano clashes were characterized by a flurry of punches, with Serrano’s aggressive advances meeting Taylor’s calculated counters. The lively Madison Square Garden audience anticipated a similar high-energy contest for this third meeting, creating an electrifying atmosphere. However, the bout unfolded differently, adopting a more measured tempo with much of the action taking place at a distance. Serrano displayed instances of forward momentum, but appeared more inclined to trade blows from afar, a domain where Taylor consistently landed sharper, more precise strikes.

Despite the shift in strategy, the fight remained tightly contested, with one judge declaring a draw and the other two scoring it 97-93 in favor of Taylor.

Following the match, Serrano explained she “explored a different strategy,” given that her previous approaches in the initial two encounters had not yielded a victory. Regret might be setting in for Serrano, as this outcome was possibly the most conclusive of Taylor’s three wins.

Taylor, on her side, expressed immense gratitude towards Serrano for their shared achievements, but firmly asserted that this marks their final encounter in the ring.

“I simply have no desire to face Amanda Serrano once more. Her punches are simply too powerful.”
