Churchill Downs has unveiled the commemorative mint julep receptacle and associated visual representations for the 152nd iteration of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve – both conceptualized by Kentucky-born Grayson Reynolds.
Originating in 1938, the Kentucky Derby mint julep receptacle has increased in fame and is considered by many as a leading Derby collectible. This year’s receptacle showcases three equines competing at differing paces encompassed by roses as an allusion to the floral adornment placed over all Derby victors. The designations of each recognized Kentucky Derby titleholder – from Aristides in 1875 to Sovereignty in 2025 – encircle the reverse of the receptacle.
Reynolds’ recognized Derby 152 visual representation depicts five Thoroughbreds surging from the commencement point beneath the Twin Spires, with crimson roses emerging from the course to illustrate the sentiment and anticipation of the contest for the roses.
“We are delighted to present Grayson as the initial Art of the Kentucky Derby creator to additionally conceptualize the recognized julep receptacle – two renowned customs unified by her artistry,” stated Megan App, director of licensing at Churchill Downs Racetrack. “Her work embodies the emotion and fervor of ‘The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.’ ”
Reynolds “Recognized Art of the Kentucky Derby” will be highlighted on the 2026 Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks recognized racing programs and a variety of merchandise.
“I’m incredibly honored to be designated the first-ever creator to conceptualize both the Kentucky Derby art and julep receptacle,” Reynolds stated. “As a Kentucky native, customs of the Derby have been a portion of my narrative growing up, and I’m excited to disseminate my work with the world.”
