Competing in her very first match following an injury-enforced retirement during the fourth round at Indian Wells back in March, Kartal began strongly and claimed an early advantage against Bouzkova, the world number 26.
Nonetheless, her opponent instantly broke back, and Bouzkova went on to control the tie-break to secure the opening set.
The British player managed an early break in the second set and maintained her advantage to take the match to a third set, but a costly first double fault surrendered a break to Bouzkova, who went up 4-2.
Although Kartal staved off defeat by fending off three match points and breaking back, Bouzkova promptly reclaimed her lead to seal the win after precisely three hours of play, giving the Czech team the lead.
“While these tournaments are my absolute favorites, they are also the ones that hurt the most,” remarked Kartal, whose ranking has slipped to 127th globally after her spell on the sidelines.
“No matter how much time I’ve missed on the tour, I can reflect on this display and feel pleased with myself.
“It certainly boosts my confidence heading into the remainder of the Asian swing, realizing that this was the caliber of tennis I could deliver in my very first match back.”
Keothavong commented: “She gave absolutely everything on the court. I don’t regret my choice at all. I hope she feels proud, because I know she is proud of how she played.”
Facing a Czech lineup that boasted Noskova and this year’s Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Muchova, British number one Boulter was always facing a daunting challenge.
A pair of double faults in the opening game caused Boulter to lose her serve early on, allowing the world number six Noskova to sweep through the first four games before comfortably taking the set.
Boulter raised her level in the second set and looked poised to force a deciding set, yet she failed to secure even one break point, enabling Noskova to dominate the tie-break and propel her country into the semifinals.
“That is the standard required when facing a top-10 player who has claimed a Grand Slam title this season. To compete at that tier, I must be willing to take risks, play aggressively, and show no fear,” Boulter noted.
This marked Boulter’s second consecutive defeat to a Czech opponent, occurring mere weeks after she was swiftly defeated in 58 minutes by Muchova at the US Open.
