Kobbie Mainoo Future: Man United’s Deadline Day Decision

The hierarchy at Old Trafford are not considering bolstering their midfield ranks as the transfer window draws to a close.

There had been tentative links between the Red Devils and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba at certain stages, given a possible departure for Kobbie Mainoo.

It seems probable that Antwerp shot-stopper Senne Lammens will conclude transfer activity, meaning Ruben Amorim must again seek improvements from the existing squad.

Losing to Arsenal on the opening day and then suffering a Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town ensured that the spotlight was firmly on Amorim as the team prepared to face Burnley on Sunday.

However, a dramatic late penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes delivered a crucial three points, which appeared to alleviate some of the pressure heading into the international break, at least temporarily.

Nevertheless, according to reports from MailSport, Manchester United are not actively pursuing a new midfielder as the transfer window comes to a close, notwithstanding injuries suffered by Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha during their victory against Scott Parker’s team.

Both Mount and Cunha were taken off during the 3-2 win at Old Trafford. It is anticipated that Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, and Mainoo will all play significant roles in the team’s midfield, at least until the January transfer window.

Mainoo has struggled to secure a regular starting position under Amorim, who often favors captain Fernandes. The Portuguese manager recently commented on Mainoo’s reported request to leave, saying that the young player needs to put in more effort.

“I want Kobbie to remain a part of the squad. He needs to compete for his place, and we need Kobbie,” the manager declared. “Therefore, that is unlikely to change. As for the rest, I am unsure how things will unfold.”

“I am aware that players who are not currently seeing game time may be feeling disappointed, but everyone is afforded the same opportunities to earn a place in the team. They have to prove themselves during the week.”

According to FourFourTwo, Mainoo is likely to get more playing time if Cunha and Mount’s injuries turn out to be significant. Nevertheless, Amorim needs to discover a system that allows the talented young international to flourish.
