Leicester sign veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begović

The Foxes have announced the acquisition of seasoned goalkeeper Asmir Benedović, who has committed to a one‑year deal, marking the club’s initial official signing this summer under the guidance of manager Martí Cifuentes.

Benedović, whose contract with Everton concluded at the close of the 2024/25 season, contributes significant Premier League and Championship expertise—having notably played for Stoke City, Chelsea, Bournemouth, and most recently Queens Park Rangers under Cifuentes in the Championship the season preceding last.

His introduction reunites him with the Spanish coach, who has openly supported Benedović’s commanding presence and dependability during critical moments. “His track record speaks volumes… the experience and leadership qualities he possesses,” Cifuentes remarked earlier this year.

Club sources are celebrating the signing as a clever short-term move: Benedović is anticipated to deliver steadiness and guidance throughout a potentially demanding season, as Leicester seeks to launch a robust league bid.

Irrespective of his experienced standing, the goalkeeper retains impressive physical condition and mental acuity—a characteristic highly valued by Cifuentes in his tactical approach.

Benedović functioned as a primary goalkeeper for QPR in 2023/24, accumulating 45 appearances but also encountering some notable mistakes, which he largely overcame with Cifuentes’s unwavering belief in him.

He becomes part of a goalkeeping group that features emerging players like Jacub Stolarczyk, with intense speculation surrounding the potential departure of current first-choice keeper Mads Hermansen to Premier League clubs in the near future.
