Lindblad set for ‘difficult’ F1 debut at Racing Bulls

Arvid Lindblad anticipates a challenging entry into Formula 1 in 2026, based on guidance received from Racing Bulls team leaders Alan Permane and Peter Bayer.

Red Bull recruited Lindblad during his accomplished karting career in January 2021, and he has rapidly progressed through the single-seater ranks, securing only one championship title: Formula Regional Oceania, previously called the Toyota Racing Series, during the past year.

A single season in Formula 2, where he achieved three wins across 23 races en route to a sixth-place finish in the standings, was sufficient for Red Bull to offer him a spot at Racing Bulls alongside Liam Lawson. This move displaced Yuki Tsunoda, who is no longer on the grid after failing to keep pace with Max Verstappen during the 2025 season.

Lindblad is set to be the sole newcomer when F1 adopts entirely new technical rules for both car chassis and engines. The 18-year-old British driver has received cautions from Permane and Bayer, indicating that immediate competitiveness will be exceedingly difficult.

“Their counsel has been that circumstances will be challenging,” Lindblad conveyed to Formula1.com from Abu Dhabi. “I ought not to be unsuspecting. I am acutely conscious that it will pose a significant test. It truly will represent a substantial advancement.”

“I have a considerable amount of preparation ahead of me in the ensuing months before Barcelona,” he continued, noting that pre-season trials are scheduled to commence at the Spanish circuit between January 26th and 30th.

“However, even then, throughout all the practice sessions and the initial phase of the season, there will be numerous aspects I’ll need to master quickly. Similarly, from the team’s perspective, this will also apply, given the sheer volume of novelties. We will all be required to acquire knowledge and evolve collaboratively.”

“The key is simply to maintain an adaptable mindset. It’s not a revelation to me that I must simply dedicate myself to hard work and remain concentrated on my own efforts.”

Lindblad’s self-assurance stems from his rapid progression through junior categories, where he dedicated only three and a half years, achieving a fourth-place finish in F3 and a sixth-place finish in F2 during his debut seasons.

He stood out as the top rookie in F3; however, in F2, he was outperformed by fellow first-timers Leonardo Fornaroli, Luke Browning, and Alex Dunne – yet, out of these three, merely Dunne possessed a comparable degree of limited experience in single-seater racing.

“My ascent through the competitive levels has been quite swift,” Lindblad observed.

“I’ve only spent a single year in each class, therefore annually I am accustomed to being thrust into challenging circumstances. Undeniably, this aspect will assist [my adjustment to F1] as I am familiar with this kind of scenario.”

“Conversely, I have not yet competed in Formula 1, so I am unaware of what lies ahead. We must observe, and I must remain receptive and diligent, as this transition will represent the most significant challenge I have encountered to date.”
