Little League World Series format

Should you require a clarification, the 2025 Little League World Series is comprised of a total of 20 teams: 10 hailing from the United States and 10 international squads. These teams participate in a modified double-elimination style tournament. Competition began Wednesday, Aug. 13, with the victorious teams advancing and maintaining their status in the winners’ segment of the bracket.

Starting Saturday, Aug. 16, the teams that suffered losses during their opening matches will compete to ascertain which teams will remain in the event. Once a team suffers two defeats, it faces elimination.

This arrangement is altered as soon as the championships get underway. The U.S. championship contest and the international championship contest are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23, and will both be single-elimination games. A similar setup will apply to the LLWS championship contest. This presents a situation where a team may be eliminated from the event subsequent to just one defeat.

Games are composed of six innings. If a game results in a tie after six innings, both teams will engage in the seventh inning under conventional rules, lacking ghost runners on base. If a game extends beyond the seventh inning, a runner will be placed at second base to commence each additional inning.
