The long-term defensive prospects for Liverpool at Anfield have received a substantial boost, as the reigning Premier League champions have finalized the acquisition of Jérémy Jacquet, the promising French youth international from Rennes.
Liverpool successfully fended off competition from domestic rival Chelsea for the signature of the 20-year-old central defender, reportedly investing £55 million upfront with an additional £5 million in add-ons to secure the talented player originating from Bondy.
However, Jacquet is not expected to link up with Arne Slot’s Liverpool squad for the ongoing 2025/26 season; instead, he will complete the current term at Roazhon Park, where Les Rouge et Noirs are actively contending for a European qualification spot in Ligue 1.
Recognized as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, Jacquet developed through Rennes’ youth system, making his debut in 2023, prior to undertaking a commendable loan period with Clermont Foot throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Following that, the French U21 international has been a key player across all youth categories for Les Bleus and is anticipated to contend for a starting position in Liverpool’s lineup beginning next season.
Jacquet joins a distinguished roster of football talents originating from Bondy, a list that includes prominent names such as Kylian Mbappé, William Saliba, and Randal Kolo Muani.
