Liverpool Star’s January Exit: Discussions Underway After Disappointing Move

Information indicates that Liverpool might present Italian international player Federico Chiesa with an opportunity to return to Serie A during the January transfer period.

Sources indicate that Chiesa became part of Liverpool during the summer of 2024 following a decline in his relationship with Juventus. However, the former Fiorentina player’s time at Anfield has been significantly impacted by injury.

The potential departure of Federico Chiesa from Liverpool may be closer as Napoli shows interest.

According to reports from Napoli Magazine, “Napoli is beginning to actively pursue Federico Chiesa. Discussions are ongoing with his representative, focusing on a possible loan agreement with Liverpool that includes an option to purchase.”

The report continues, “It remains to be determined if the English club, who are reportedly open to Chiesa’s departure, will also insist on including an obligation to buy in any potential agreement.”

The Italian champions are said to value Chiesa at approximately £10 million, reflecting his limited involvement with the Reds, totaling just 26 appearances across all competitions.

While Chiesa participated in six matches during Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning season in 2024-25, and has already surpassed that number this season, it is believed that both Chiesa and the club would find a separation to be a satisfactory resolution.

Napoli Magazine suggests, “After spending a year and a half primarily on the bench and in the stands of the Premier League, he has the opportunity to regain prominence.”

The magazine adds, “However, we are nearing a ‘now or never’ situation. Napoli could represent Chiesa’s last opportunity to revitalize his career at the highest level and strive for a spot in the World Cup.”

“Chiesa is viewed as a crucial target for Antonio Conte’s attacking strategy, who, in addition to securing [Romelu] Lukaku’s return, seeks a goal-scoring winger capable of adding unpredictability to the attack.”

Chiesa’s track record includes 47 goals in Serie A, which played a significant role in Liverpool’s decision to acquire him for £10 million, in addition to potential add-ons, in August 2024. Throughout his time with Fiorentina and Juventus, he faced Napoli in 14 league games, scoring three goals.

This season, the Italian player has made eight Premier League appearances for Liverpool as a substitute, scoring twice. He has also come off the bench in their two most recent Champions League matches.

Liverpool is scheduled to play Nottingham Forest when Premier League games resume on Saturday afternoon. Arne Slot’s Reds managed to halt a period of poor performance by defeating Aston Villa and Real Madrid, before experiencing a significant loss against Manchester City before the November international break.
