The possibility of Liverpool securing Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi’s signature might not materialize.
The Premier League champions reportedly made a £35 million bid for Guehi, which Palace had seemingly agreed to.
The Eagles permitted Guehi to undergo a medical assessment in London; however, unforeseen circumstances have cast doubt on the prospective transfer, occurring just an hour before the closure of the trading period.
Marc Guehi’s Liverpool move in jeopardy
The plan involved Guehi’s replacement by Igor Julio, a central defender from Brighton and Hove Albion; however, complications arose from the Brazilian’s medical assessment, resulting in Palace withdrawing from a loan arrangement. Consequently, the 27-year-old is anticipated to transfer to West Ham United instead.
The Athletic indicates that the potential acquisition of Guehi is now in danger of failing due to the South London team finding themselves without sufficient defensive backups.
Guehi has a year remaining on his current contract at Selhurst Park. The determination to permit the club captain’s departure stemmed from Palace considering £35m an exceptionally lucrative offer for a player expected to potentially leave as a free agent in the following summer.
That scenario might transpire should a resolution to salvage the arrangement fail to materialize within the final hours.
Guehi is believed to have successfully completed his medical examination and is prepared to formally commit to Liverpool.
It is anticipated that Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, will conduct crucial discussions with the player before reaching a conclusive verdict.
