It appears likely that Victor Lindelof will imminently become a new addition to the Aston Villa squad as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.
Since his departure from Man United this summer, following an eight-year tenure with the club, Lindelof has been without a team.
Reportedly, the Swedish international is on the verge of joining Villa Park, according to insights from The Athletic, after discussions have progressed significantly in the last day.
Aston Villa close in on signing of former Manchester United defender
During his last season with the Old Trafford side, Lindelof participated in 16 Premier League matches before his contract concluded in June.
Reportedly, Villa is acquiring the central defender to provide additional options alongside the club’s primary choices, which include Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa, and Tyrone Mings.
It has been challenging for Unai Emery’s team to bring in new players this summer due to financial restrictions linked to Profitability and Sustainability regulations (PSR).
Marco Bizot, Yasin Ozcan, and Evann Guessand have all joined the Villans, while the club has parted ways with Jacob Ramsey, selling him to rivals Newcastle United, to generate funds in response to PSR concerns.
Ramsey’s departure signified ‘pure profit’ for Villa, attributable to his journey as an academy product.
Lindelof is anticipated to agree to a two-year commitment to collaborate with Emery and his staff. Reports also suggested interest from Everton and Fiorentina in the defender, but he now seems destined for Villa Park.
During his eight-year tenure with Man United, Lindelof participated in 284 matches.
While at Old Trafford, the 31-year-old secured victories in the League Cup and FA Cup, and twice finished as runner-up in the UEFA Europa League.
