Manchester United Target Defender Amidst Amorim’s Transfer Plans

The hierarchy at Old Trafford are reportedly weighing up a temporary transfer in the winter window for a promising young defender.

The Sporting Lisbon manager’s team welcomes Everton in the domestic competition on Monday and are undefeated in their previous five matches, presenting the possibility that the Red Devils could ascend to as high as fourth place with a victory on Monday night.

Amorim has frequently selected a defensive trio consisting of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs de Ligt throughout the current season, with Leny Yoro typically serving as the primary substitute.

As a consequence, both Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson have been sidelined, but neither of them are the players speculated to be departing temporarily; instead, it’s a player who prefers to play in one of the wing-back positions.

According to journalist Uriel Lugt, information has been conveyed indicating that Diego Leon might receive an opportunity to depart on loan in January, subsequent to a series of performances for Manchester United’s Under-21s this season.

Leon achieved his inaugural goal for the club in a recent triumph over Tottenham in Premier League 2, advancing from the defensive line to execute a well-placed finish for Travis Binnion’s squad.

Leon has been included on the substitutes’ bench for United on a few occasions under Amorim, in addition to participating in pre-season activities, but it appears that his progress is being meticulously managed behind the scenes at Carrington, with a loan move currently being considered.

He earned his first senior appearance for Paraguay in October, and the adolescent is projected to transfer to a ‘European club’ according to the report published on Monday.

Binnion has subsequently shared his evaluation of Leon’s development, emphasizing that the club must exercise caution and refrain from introducing the young player into action prematurely.

“It is apparent to everyone that he possesses certain genuine attributes and a solid base to his game that he needs to expand upon,” the coach stated, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“He is aware, as we all are, that he needs to improve certain aspects, but to be fair to the player, he has not yet completed a full 90 minutes. We will aim to accomplish that relatively soon, and it will benefit him significantly.

“If he can consistently play for 90 minutes, it will then be appropriate to evaluate his game and determine his current level. At this point, he has demonstrated promising glimpses and has integrated seamlessly into the group.”
