An injury to Marc Guehi’s foot occurred during Crystal Palace’s match against AZ Alkmaar on November 6, resulting in his withdrawal from the England squad.
The Crystal Palace team leader, who has increasingly played for his national side in recent times, was absent from the Eagles’ 0-0 stalemate with Brighton a few days later. This was due to a significant bone contusion that, according to his coach Oliver Glasner, caused such discomfort that he couldn’t sleep.
Guehi did meet up with Gareth Southgate’s squad but it was soon agreed that he would go back to his club to keep up his recovery, with the expectation that he will be in good enough condition for the Premier League game away at Wolves on Saturday.
Marc Guehi’s availability would greatly benefit Crystal Palace before their match at Molineux
Following his team’s goalless match with Brighton, Glasner provided a potential timeframe for his key defender’s comeback, stating that “perhaps in approximately 10 to 14 days, he can hopefully go back to training and be available again.”
That would suggest that the 25-year-old will be ready for when club football resumes, but it is still uncertain if the Palace manager will take any chances, especially given that Guehi was using crutches in the days following the injury.
Guehi’s contract expires in the summer, and he is expected to leave Selhurst Park. Liverpool seems to be the most likely destination, as he was very close to joining Arne Slot’s team on the transfer deadline day back in August.
Nevertheless, the defender has continued to lead Palace and perform to his consistently high standards. He will be hoping to be at his best for the match against the team at the bottom of the league at Molineux this weekend.
