The Fulham head coach, Marco Silva, has voiced his worries regarding defender Joachim Andersen after the Danish player sustained an injury during the match against Arsenal.
Andersen had to leave the field during the 1-0 loss, along with team captain Tom Cairney, who experienced some discomfort during the game – adding to the growing list of injuries for Silva’s squad.
In a post-match interview, Silva was questioned about the condition of his two key players and disclosed the specific reasons that led to their substitution during the game.
Marco Silva explains Fulham injuries
“Currently, we are dealing with a few injuries,” Silva commented after the match. “Joachim [Andersen] is unavailable, and so is Tom Cairney.
“Joachim has sustained a hamstring injury. He experienced some discomfort. We now need to determine whether it’s a more serious condition or a minor injury that he is facing.
“We will need to wait for the next several hours or days after the tests to determine the severity of the injury, as with muscle injuries, it is important to assess how serious the condition might be.
“Tom Cairney had an issue with his back. He felt it while jumping for a ball. It doesn’t appear to be too serious.
“That’s a separate issue; it was a blow to that area. He wasn’t feeling well afterwards. I anticipate that he will also be unavailable for us next week.“
Silva also mentioned that he desired more from his team in the second half but expressed satisfaction with their effort, considering the current injury situation within the Cottagers’ squad.
“Currently, we have numerous players unavailable, but the players demonstrated a strong attitude, work ethic, and maintained good organisation for the majority of the game. Arsenal is performing exceptionally well, making them a challenging opponent.
“We performed better in the first half. I would have preferred us to replicate our first-half performance for a longer period in the second half, but Arsenal’s current form compelled us to adapt in ways we would have preferred not to.”
