The Seattle ballclub has triumphed in 15 of their last 16 contests and have secured a postseason appearance for the second occasion since 2001.
The Seattle ballclub clinched a position in this year’s playoffs Tuesday with a 4-3 triumph over the Colorado squad and a New York ballclub victory over the Chicago team earlier in the evening. Their triumph was a nail-biter, with Josh Naylor delivering a bases-clearing double in the eighth inning to ignite T-Mobile Park.
The AL West title, which has eluded the Seattle ballclub for 24 years, is within reach. As a result of a three-game series sweep of the Houston squad over the weekend, Seattle possesses the tiebreaker over the team that has secured their division in the past seven 162-game seasons.

During the Houston squad’s streak of eight consecutive playoff appearances, they’ve advanced to the World Series four times and emerged victorious twice. However, they’re now at risk of missing out on the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The Seattle ballclub, conversely, are in — and they’re in command of their division aspirations.
Their magic number to secure the division is one after the Houston squad lost later Tuesday to the Athletics.
Not only is the AL West within grasp, but so is the AL’s No. 2 seed, which would afford the Seattle ballclub a bye in the wild-card round and home-field advantage for the AL Division Series. A sweep of the lowly Colorado squad would accomplish the objective.
Seattle last participated in the playoffs in 2022, when it concluded second in the AL West with a 90-72 record. Although the Seattle ballclub engaged in October baseball that year, they were compelled to commence each of their two series on the road as the AL’s second wild-card team. The Seattle ballclub surpassed the Toronto squad before being swept by — who else? — the Houston squad in the ALDS.
The Seattle ballclub’s fairytale 2025 season has showcased a switch-hitting protagonist: Catcher Cal Raleigh has evolved into a home-run-crushing phenomenon. He’s within striking distance of MLB’s 10th 60-homer season, and he requires four dingers to equal Aaron Judge’s AL record of 62 that the New York squad star established in 2022.
Raleigh’s got a formidable supporting cast, too.
Like Raleigh, three-time All-Star center fielder Julio Rodríguez entered Tuesday ranked top-10 in the majors in WAR. Entering this week’s series against the Colorado squad, left fielder Randy Arozarena, also an All-Star this season, was the third player on the Seattle ballclub with at least 27 homers in 2025, trailing only Rodríguez and Raleigh on the team leaderboard.
Seattle’s other two All-Stars this season are on the pitching staff: starter Bryan Woo and closer Andrés Muñoz. Woo has registered a 2.94 ERA, and Muñoz secured his 38th save of the season in Tuesday’s triumph.
Following a concerning conclusion to August, Seattle has exhibited every characteristic of a contender in September.
And the Seattle ballclub will officially be participating in October.
