Marshawn Kneeland, 24, Dies: NFL News & Injury Updates

The professional football community is in shock Thursday following the announcement from the Dallas Cowboys regarding the passing of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, aged 24.

Kneeland, selected in the second round of the 2024 draft from Western Michigan, memorably secured a touchdown on a recovered punt during Monday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cowboys issued the following announcement:

“It is with profound sorrow that the Dallas Cowboys confirm the tragic passing of Marshawn Kneeland earlier today. Marshawn was a cherished member of our team and organization. We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to Marshawn’s girlfriend, Catalina, and his family.”

Expressions of grief and support are being shared across the professional football landscape in response to Kneeland’s death. Law enforcement in Frisco, Texas, communicated on Thursday that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident as a potential act of self-harm.

The Week 10 schedule commences Thursday evening with a contest between the Denver Broncos and the Las Vegas Raiders. A significant development for the Broncos is that their Defensive Player of the Year, Patrick Surtain II, will be absent for a second consecutive game due to a pectoral injury. The Raiders, conversely, are expected to have all key players available.

Earlier in the week, the Texans disclosed that C.J. Stroud will be unavailable, as he remains under concussion protocol as reported by head coach DeMeco Ryans. Concurrently, the Cardinals in Arizona are placing Kyler Murray on injured reserve. Murray has been inactive since Week 5 because of a foot sprain.
