As per reports from The Athletic, Inter Miami is scheduled to make a trip to the White House on Thursday to commemorate their MLS Cup championship.
This visit, where Lionel Messi’s team would meet President Donald Trump, is slated for March 7, just two days prior to Inter Miami’s match against D.C. United. Assuming Messi participates, it would constitute the current two-time MLS MVP’s initial engagement at the executive mansion.
Queries to a spokesperson for Messi regarding whether the eight-time Ballon d’Or recipient would be joining the delegation reportedly went unanswered.
In January 2025, Messi had received an invitation to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom, however, scheduling conflicts prevented his attendance at the event presided over by former President Joe Biden.
Inter Miami secured their inaugural MLS Cup championship by overcoming the Vancouver Whitecaps with a 3-1 victory in December. This upcoming visit by The Herons will represent the first time an MLS club has been hosted at the White House since 2024, when Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s spouse, welcomed the Columbus Crew.
David Beckham, a co-proprietor of Inter Miami, was a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy squad that won the MLS Cup in 2011 and celebrated their triumph with former President Barack Obama.
If Messi chooses to participate, he would be the second prominent football figure to have an audience with Trump within recent months. Last November, Cristiano Ronaldo was present at the White House for a formal dinner alongside Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
