During an interview on Death Row MMA with Jorge Masvidal, the current fourth-ranked contender in the weight class discussed various aspects of his ascent into the top five. Carlos Prates also solidified his position in the rankings after UFC 322 at Madison Square Garden, currently holding the sixth spot in the 170-pound weight category.
When queried about his potential next steps, Morales conveyed openness to several interesting possibilities, stating [via MMA Fighting],
“They’ve suggested I’m a contender for a title fight, but likely next year, around July or June, contingent on Makhachev’s schedule. Carlos Prates possesses significant power and an awareness of vulnerable spots. He’s also demonstrated the ability to endure through three rounds, even when grappling. His progression is rapid, and he also aspires to be champion.”
“My initial focus is to secure my position, and I’m open to facing anyone. If a fight with Prates is necessary before a title shot, I’m prepared. This sport is competitive; it’s a free-for-all. No one will concede.”
