According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Mikal Bridges, a forward for the New York Knicks, has reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension worth $150 million.
SNY had previously reported that the 28-year-old was eligible for a maximum extension of four years and $156 million. However, according to Charania, Bridges accepted a slightly smaller amount to aid the Knicks in constructing their roster.
The Knicks had a period from July 6 until June 30, 2026, before Bridges was scheduled to become a free agent, during which they could secure a new contract with him. Charania reports that the new agreement includes a player option for the 2029-30 season and a trade kicker.
Bridges initially arrived in New York, specifically in Brooklyn, after being traded from Phoenix in exchange for Kevin Durant. Prior to being traded to the borough south of Manhattan, he spent five seasons with the Suns.
The former Villanova Wildcat posted an average of 26.1 points per game in 27 games for the Nets after joining the team, and 19.6 points per game after starting in each of the 82 games the following season.
Bridges was traded to the Knicks last offseason in exchange for Bojan Bogdanović, five first-round draft picks, and a second-round pick. The trade reunited Bridges with his former college teammates, Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson.
In his debut season wearing blue and orange, Bridges demonstrated his value as a versatile player for the Knicks, averaging 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. His defensive skills were also evident during the Knicks’ playoff campaign, which ended with a loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals. In this year’s postseason, Bridges averaged 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game.
Bridges’ contract extension follows the Knicks’ appointment of Mike Brown as their new head coach, succeeding Tom Thibodeau. The team has also bolstered its roster through free agency, adding Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson.
