The 2025 Major League Baseball transaction period has concluded, and the activity has been substantial.
In a surprising turn of events on the final day, the Minnesota Twins are re-routing Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros, the team with which he secured the 2017 championship. Correa consented to the trade by waiving his contractual clause.
Earlier in the day, the San Diego Padres made a significant move by trading for Oakland Athletics’ premier relief pitcher, Mason Miller, along with starting pitcher J.P. Sears. The Athletics are expected to receive shortstop Leodalis De Vries in return. General Manager A.J. Preller continued to fortify the Padres’ offense, reportedly obtaining both first baseman/designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn and outfielder Ramon Laureano from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for six minor league prospects.
The impactful transactions began on Wednesday, as the Seattle Mariners acquired another infielder from the Arizona Diamondbacks, rekindling their association with third baseman Eugenio Suarez to inject substantial power into their batting lineup. Additionally, the Cincinnati Reds added a Gold Glove-winning third baseman in Ke’Bryan Hayes, as well as a reliable starting pitcher in Zack Littell.
Both prominent contenders in the National League East division also undertook significant bullpen enhancements. The most notable deal was executed by the Philadelphia Phillies, who acquired All-Star closer Jhoan Duran. The New York Mets responded by acquiring a multitude of pitchers, securing Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals and Tyler Rogers from the San Francisco Giants, complementing their prior acquisition of Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles (obtained the previous week). The New York Yankees followed suit on Thursday by acquiring David Bednar, a new closer, from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
With the deadline approaching, numerous potential deals were anticipated, involving prominent players such as Steven Kwan, Sandy Alcantara, Zac Gallen, and Mackenzie Gore.
