Montpellier have revealed that French international prop Baptiste Erdocio has put pen to paper on a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2029. This solidifies the 25-year-old’s position with the team a year ahead of his existing contract’s expiration.
Erdocio’s impressive performances had reportedly garnered attention from Bayonne and Clermont, but the prop, who was born in the Basque region, has pledged his long-term commitment to the club in Hérault.
Having developed through Bidart Union Club and the Biarritz academy, Erdocio made his entry into professional rugby with BO in 2021 before making the move to Montpellier in the summer of 2023. Since then, he has become a consistent presence in the team, participating in 20 Top 14 matches last season – starting in 14 of those – and contributing with a try.
Born on March 13, 2000, in Bidart, the prop, who weighs 115kg and stands at 1.75m, is also capable of playing at hooker. His notable performances for his club led to his first call-up to the French national team for the tour of New Zealand, where he was named in the starting XV for two of the three Test matches.
Recognized for his agility and prowess with the ball in hand, Erdocio currently holds the third-highest tackle completion rate among all front-row players in the Top 14 this season.
Montpellier, who concluded the previous season in ninth place, will begin their new Top 14 season with a home fixture against Toulon on September 6.
