Bayern Munich’s 22-year-old rising star Jamal Musiala sustained a significant leg injury near the conclusion of the first 45 minutes of the squad’s 2-0 defeat against PSG in the Club World Cup quarterfinal match on Saturday in Atlanta. The Germany representative, recognized as a highly skilled and productive midfielder in the sport, pursued a bouncing ball in the offensive zone at the same instant that PSG’s goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, also targeted it. The Italian goalie stretched out for the ball but ended up making contact with Musiala’s lower left leg. As the action unfolded, his left ankle was observed to be noticeably askew.

Bayern’s players quickly signaled to the goalkeeper to halt the game to enable medical attention for the injured player. Many teammates encircled him and expressed their shock at the seriousness of the injury with gestures of disbelief. The match official promptly requested the entry of a stretcher onto the playing surface for the medical personnel, coinciding with the teams’ departure to the locker room for the intermission, where Musiala underwent initial medical assessment.

PSG were able to achieve the decisive score in the 78th minute courtesy of a precise strike from Desire Doue, but it was not an easy path for the remainder of the game. PSG received two ejection penalties, with Willian Pacho (reckless challenge) and Lucas Hernandez (contact to the face) both being removed from the contest. Even with the two-player advantage, Bayern was unable to equalize, while Ousmane Dembele secured PSG’s second goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

With the victory, PSG is scheduled to compete against either Real Madrid or Dortmund in the semifinal round in the coming week.
