NBC Sports Presents 2026 Kentucky Oaks in Primetime

For the first occasion, NBC Sports is set to broadcast the Longines Kentucky Oaks during primetime in 2026.

The 152nd installment of the Kentucky Oaks, showcasing the finest 3-year-old female horses in Thoroughbred racing, is scheduled for Friday, May 1, 2026, airing at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock from Churchill Downs. Alongside top-tier racing, the Kentucky Oaks’ traditions, which highlight fashion and women’s health advocacy, will continue to be key aspects of the event — culminating in a stunning evening conclusion.

“We are thrilled to showcase the Kentucky Oaks in primetime for the very first time,” said Jon Miller, president, acquisitions & partnerships, NBC Sports. “With the Oaks kicking off Friday night, leading into the Kentucky Derby on the initial Saturday of May, we eagerly anticipate returning to Churchill Downs for another memorable weekend of racing.”

“By shifting the Kentucky Oaks to primetime, we are providing one of horse racing’s most cherished traditions with the significant national exposure it merits,” stated Churchill Downs Inc. CEO Bill Carstanjen. “This decision reflects our dedication to expanding the sport, engaging new audiences, and delivering remarkable experiences for our fans.”

The Kentucky Derby is recognized as the longest continually held major sporting event in America. The 152nd Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026, and will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock. The 151st Kentucky Derby, held on May 3, 2025, achieved the highest viewership for the Run for the Roses since 1989, with viewership peaking at 21.8 million on NBC and Peacock as Sovereignty claimed victory.

In May of 2024, NBC Sports and Churchill Downs publicly shared a long-term agreement to continue their partnership. This agreement, which started with the Kentucky Derby in 2001, solidifies NBC as the event’s longest-standing broadcast partner, positioning NBCUniversal as the first media entity to cover this prestigious horse racing event for three decades (32 Kentucky Derby broadcasts from 2001 to 2032).
