Dylan Raiola is not expected to play for Nebraska in the upcoming season. Reports from ESPN’s Pete Thamel indicate that the twenty-year-old signal-caller intends to enter the transfer portal following an encouraging second year that was curtailed by an injury.
Before a fractured fibula restricted him to merely nine starts, Raiola was enjoying a superb sophomore campaign. Across those appearances, he accumulated 2,000 passing yards, tallying eighteen touchdowns versus six interceptions. His accuracy significantly improved, with his completion rate rising from 67.1% during his rookie year to 72.4% in his second year.
As a genuine sophomore, Raiola possesses two remaining seasons of eligibility, as per Thamel’s information.
Raiola, recognized as a premier quarterback prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle, garnered attention in 2023 by switching his commitment from Georgia to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. This decision appeared beneficial, given that Raiola participated in thirteen contests during his inaugural year with the team. He displayed potential in those outings, even with thirteen touchdowns and eleven interceptions.
During his second year, Raiola seemingly made substantial progress as a passer. He began the season impressively until suffering a broken fibula during a defeat to USC. Nebraska compiled a 1-2 record subsequently, concluding the year with a 7-5 overall standing. The team is slated to face Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 31st.
Speculation regarding Raiola’s tenure at Nebraska arose after his sibling, Dayton, withdrew his commitment from the university in November. It was reported that Dylan attracted various interested parties attempting to entice him away from Nebraska following a challenging initial year. He eventually opted to stay with the Cornhuskers for his second season before his reported decision to transfer.
