The Newcastle Red Bulls have exercised their contractual right to keep loosehead Adam Brocklebank for an additional year. This decision followed just twenty-four hours after back-row player Ollie Leatherbarrow also secured a further year on his agreement.
Thirty-year-old Brocklebank has been a fixture at Kingston Park for more than ten years, accumulating 157 match appearances after his time at Durham University.
Conversely, Leatherbarrow is only in his third season with the team, having transferred from the Exeter Chiefs in 2023.
This Scotland U20 representative has participated in 28 matches for the squad thus far, notably commencing as the No.8 in their recent Gallagher PREM triumph against Gloucester.
Following the signing, Brocklebank stated, “Newcastle has become my current home, and I am thrilled to prolong my tenure here.”
“My family and I have established ourselves, the Newcastle Red Bulls are achieving significant advancements, and I aim to reach 200 appearances for this club, thus relocating was never a consideration.
“The entire atmosphere surrounding the club is currently exhilarating, and I am confident that any athlete would desire to be involved, so I am eager to contribute to maintaining that forward momentum.”
Leatherbarrow then commented, “I genuinely appreciate my time here and am thrilled to secure an additional two-year tenure with the team.
“While there are numerous fresh faces, the group of players is excellent, and I anticipate being a part of what promises to be a truly dynamic future here, overseen by Red Bull.”
“The past couple of years presented challenges periodically, yet I have gained considerable knowledge and enhanced my skills as an athlete.
“I was required to exercise patience, and my playing time hasn’t been as extensive as I would have wished across the preceding two seasons, but I’ve moved past that and maintained a constructive outlook. I’ve harnessed that experience as motivation for my selections, striving to convert it into diligent effort throughout the training week and offering assistance to my fellow players.
“I recognize the necessity of maximizing my chances whenever they arise, given the intensely competitive nature of our back-row cohort. I am simply enthusiastic to be involved during this thrilling phase for the club and genuinely pleased that the contract arrangements have been finalized.”
