The concluding week of NFL exhibition competition has arrived, with proceedings concluding by Saturday evening.

The Browns were hosts to the Rams in the concluding exhibition match for both squads, with spotlight on Cleveland’s QB contest. Initial player Joe Flacco managed 9 successful throws out of 10 attempts, covering 71 yards and achieving a touchdown pass before substituting with third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel, who displayed a commendable performance for the second consecutive week and spearheaded an impactful two-minute offensive drive resulting in a touchdown. Gabriel completed 12 throws out of 19 attempts, covering 129 yards and achieving the TD pass.

Sanders, however, faced significant challenges, influenced partially by the Rams’ defensive intensity and partly due to prolonged attempts to extend offensive plays. He successfully completed 3 out of 6 pass attempts, gaining a mere 14 yards, and lost 41 yards due to five quarterback sacks. Sanders was absent from the concluding series, with veteran Tyler Huntley taking the snaps.

The implications of this for the Browns’ backup chart behind Flacco remain uncertain, although Gabriel appears to be a more secure choice for making the roster currently. The unpredictable factor is veteran Kenny Pickett, who was absent from all exhibition games due to a hamstring issue.

As the subsequent kickoffs commence, Jalen Milroe is guiding the Seattle Seahawks against the Green Bay Packers. The rookie third-round selection has an opportunity to reinforce his hold on the QB2 position in Seattle at Lambeau Field.

NFL key narratives

  • Micah Parsons rests on coach’s desk during Cowboys’ exhibition finale: Micah Parsons initiated Friday with a “contact me” signal in response to a Falcons supporter who exclaimed “relocate to the Falcons!” at him. Subsequently, during the exhibition finale, he rested on a coach’s desk on the sideline. This unfolds amidst squad proprietor and chief manager Jerry Jones undertaking a media circuit to deliberate on the ongoing contract negotiation with Parsons and criticize his representative. Intriguing!

  • Caleb Williams, Bears starters ‘inefficient’ in exhibition finale versus Chiefs: Chicago Bears chief coach Ben Johnson conveyed honesty following Friday evening at Arrowhead Stadium. The Bears’ primary offensive unit was simply, in Johnson’s assessment, “lacking.” The Bears’ reserve players, notably newly-contracted quarterback Tyson Bagent, rallied the squad to a 29-27 triumph culminating in a walk-off touchdown. However, the starters’ struggles in the initial portion raised concerns with the regular term rapidly approaching.

  • Steelers’ initial-round rookie anticipated to be absent for a month: Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Derrick Harmon is anticipated to be sidelined for an extended duration subsequent to being diagnosed with an MCL sprain, according to various reports. Harmon sustained a knee affliction during the Steelers’ third and concluding exhibition match against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. Although the affliction is not as severe as initially feared, Harmon is anticipated to be absent for a month while recuperating from the affliction, rendering him a contender to commence the term on injured reserve, as per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
