NFL Trade Deadline: Jets, Raiders Deals; Injury Updates

As the 2025 season approaches its central point and the transaction deadline looms on Tuesday afternoon, the outcomes of Week 9 have generated extensive conversation —highlighting several surprising triumphs and unexpected results. Notably, the Chicago Bears narrowly averted failure against the Cincinnati Bengals, leading to disappointment for the Cincinnati offensive unit.

Transactions intensified as Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline approached, with the Dallas Cowboys commencing activities by acquiring essential defensive reinforcements through a trade for linebacker Logan Wilson. Following this, the New York Jets initiated a comprehensive selling strategy.

Initially, two-time All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner was dispatched to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a pair of first-round selections. The Jets officially announced the transaction, prompting Gardner to share a succinct farewell message to New York fans via X on Tuesday afternoon.

Subsequently, Pro Bowl defensive lineman Quinnen Williams was reportedly traded by the Jets to the Cowboys in return for a package encompassing a first-round pick, according to numerous reports. This agreement intends to strengthen Dallas’ defense and supplies extra draft selections to New York.

In parallel developments, veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers secured a transfer ahead of the deadline, as the Raiders dealt him to the Jacksonville Jaguars. With this action, Meyers accomplishes his desired trade from the beginning of the 2025 season, and Jacksonville enriches its wide receiver options, given WR/CB Travis Hunter’s placement on injured reserve caused by a knee injury.

Separate from the transaction deadline, Week 9 presented NFL followers with a variety of injuries requiring attentive monitoring in the subsequent weeks. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a significant left elbow injury following an awkward landing late during their overwhelming loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday evening. Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud prematurely departed Sunday’s match against the Denver Broncos because of a concussion, with head coach DeMeco Ryans describing the hit as an uncalled “unnecessary roughness” offense.

Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft was transported off the field Sunday due to a knee injury, later diagnosed as a torn ACL, ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicated on Monday. In addition, Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Joe Alt was carted away after sustaining an ankle injury — the identical injury that sidelined him for three previous games earlier this season — representing a substantial impairment to the Chargers’ offensive capabilities.

And as the transaction deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET draws near, take a look at the potential purchasers and vendors, some transactions we expect, a review of past deadlines, among other topics.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin informed journalists Tuesday that cornerback Jalen Ramsey will continue to “exclusively” play free safety Sunday on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ramsey stepped back into that role last weekend because of the injuries in the Steelers’ defensive lineup at that position. He united with Kyle Dugger, whom Pittsburgh acquired by way of trade last week. As a unit, they assisted in reducing the effectiveness of an Indianapolis Colts offense that had commenced at a historic rate during its prior eight games.

With wideout Kayshon Boutte struggling with a hamstring injury, the New England Patriots are signing on another player at the position. Brenden Rice, the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, has reportedly signed with the organization Tuesday, per reports.

Brenden has minimal NFL experience, playing in three games with the Los Angeles Chargers last season.

The Chargers selected Brenden in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft. While he was able to get some playing time with the organization last season, the team waived Brenden during training camp.
