Norrie Eliminated in Shanghai Masters Round 3

The player has triumphed over Medvedev on a couple of occasions during the current season – notably in a five-set thriller at the Australian Open and then again in the China Open semi-final the previous week, where the Russian competitor had to withdraw due to muscle cramps.

The young athlete, aged 19, progressed to the last 16 in Melbourne and has secured victories against two players ranked in the top five this year, specifically Medvedev and Lorenzo Musetti.

He experienced defeat in the China Open final against Jannik Sinner, the world’s second-ranked player, who subsequently withdrew from a competition in Shanghai on the following Monday citing an injury.

Medvedev, aiming to conclude a challenging year positively, achieved a win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Previously, Alexander Zverev, currently ranked third globally, faced another early elimination, losing to Arthur Rinderknech with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

This marks the second instance this year where Rinderknech of France has emerged victorious against Zverev, having previously ousted him from Wimbledon in the opening round.

Zverev from Germany reached the final of the Australian Open at the start of the year but has since experienced a rather disappointing season, securing only a single title.

“My performance this year has been subpar; I’m simply not playing well overall,” Zverev commented.

“Regrettably, this is quite typical for me these days.”
