The clay-court campaign for British player Cameron Norrie commenced successfully as he secured a 6-2 4-6 7-6 (7-0) triumph against Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia during the opening round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
Following a commanding performance in the initial set, Norrie, who had not secured a win at this event since 2019, encountered difficulties in the subsequent one. He lost his serve on three occasions, notably during his last two service opportunities.
The concluding set was full of suspense, as the British athlete had his serve broken by the 58th-ranked player globally while attempting to serve out the match with a 5-4 lead.
However, during the tie-break, Norrie, ranked 24th internationally and having reclaimed his position as British number one by surpassing Jack Draper in March, elevated his play to secure the win.
The thirty-year-old is slated for another encounter with Australia’s world number six, Alex de Minaur, a player he overcame last month en route to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells.
