Odell Beckham Jr.’s NFL Reinstatement: Top 5 Potential Landing Spots

A pass-catcher who has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times, identified as Odell Beckham Jr., was given the official green light to resume his NFL career by league commissioner Roger Goodell this past Tuesday. According to NFL Media, Beckham is now eligible to sign with any team he chooses. Beckham had been serving a six-game suspension due to infractions of the NFL’s regulations concerning performance-enhancing substances. Although his suspension didn’t stop him from joining a team, he is now permitted to participate in games at any given moment.

Beckham, who recently celebrated his 33rd birthday, most recently played for the Miami Dolphins in the 2024 season. Throughout nine games, he managed to secure just nine catches, accumulating a total of 55 yards. Even though he may not possess the same level of explosive perimeter threat that once allowed him to dominate the field and single-handedly lead an offense, Beckham still holds the potential to be a valuable asset to a competitive team. He expressed his strong desire to continue his playing career this past August.

Beckham made a significant impact on the league during his rookie year with the New York Giants in 2014, achieving an impressive 91 receptions for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns. He consistently exceeded 1,300 receiving yards in each of his initial three seasons and also achieved double-digit touchdown totals. After participating in 59 games for the Giants, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns. During his time with Cleveland, which lasted 29 games, Beckham recorded 114 receptions for 1,586 yards and seven touchdowns before his release in 2021.

Subsequently, Beckham signed with the Los Angeles Rams midway through the season and played a crucial role in the team’s Super Bowl LVI victory. During that playoff run, Beckham successfully caught 21 out of 26 targets, amassing 288 yards and scoring two touchdowns for the Rams. Notably, he scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl before suffering an ACL tear. Beckham remained inactive throughout the 2022 season and then joined Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in 2023.

With the NFL playoff picture becoming clearer, which teams might be interested in acquiring Beckham’s services? Let’s examine five possible destinations, presented in no specific order.

Kansas City Chiefs

Despite their current record of 5-5, the Kansas City Chiefs, who are the reigning AFC champions, are still fully committed to pursuing a Super Bowl title. Kansas City is preparing for a challenging game this week against the Indianapolis Colts, who are coming off their bye week. According to SportsLine, a loss in that game would reduce the Chiefs’ chances of making the playoffs to 36.3%.

Patrick Mahomes’ receiving options currently consist of Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquise Brown and Tyquan Thornton, but might head coach Andy Reid be considering the addition of a seasoned wide receiver to aid their playoff aspirations?

Denver Broncos

Concerning the AFC West, the Denver Broncos could certainly benefit from additional support at the receiver position. Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant delivered strong performances against the Chiefs this past Sunday, collectively accumulating 166 receiving yards, however, the Broncos’ inconsistent offensive displays throughout the season have been thoroughly noted. Although Beckham wouldn’t instantly transform the Broncos into a top-tier passing offense, he could emerge as a dependable receiving option for Bo Nix.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ management team has likely been monitoring the market for available wide receivers throughout the entire season, considering that DK Metcalf is the only receiver on the team to have surpassed 250 receiving yards this year. With one of OBJ’s former teams, Baltimore, closing in on Pittsburgh in the division standings, the Steelers may consider adding some offensive firepower. It would undoubtedly be captivating to witness Beckham playing for his third different team in the AFC North.

San Francisco 49ers

Brandon Aiyuk is still working his way back after an ACL injury sustained the prior year, and Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings have each missed games this season due to injury. Despite these setbacks, the 7-4 San Francisco 49ers have their sights firmly set on competing for a Super Bowl title. Considering that the 49ers compete in the NFL’s most competitive division, why not consider signing a player who contributed to a Super Bowl victory for one of your rivals a few years back?

Los Angeles Rams

Personally, this is my preferred potential destination. Beckham played a key role in helping Matthew Stafford and the Rams win Super Bowl LVI with his contributions late in the regular season and in the playoffs that year, and he has the potential to replicate that impact in 2025. While the Rams’ passing attack is led by the talented duo of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, the injury reserve placement of Tutu Atwell and Xavier Smith’s current concussion protocol status could provide an opportunity for OBJ to rejoin the team for another Super Bowl push.
