After a three-year span, the Edmonton Oilers will miss their appearance in the Stanley Cup final.

Their playoff run ended Thursday evening, following a 5-2 defeat by the Anaheim Ducks in the sixth match of their initial series.

Edmonton’s last playoff series defeat, excluding the Stanley Cup final, was in 2022-23 when they were defeated by Vegas in the second round. For the past two seasons, the Oilers were defeated by Florida in the Cup final.

Conversely, Anaheim makes its first playoff appearance since the 2017-18 season. The Ducks last secured a playoff series victory against Edmonton during the 2016-17 season.

Anaheim’s subsequent opponent will be the victor of the series between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Utah Mammoth. Vegas currently holds a 3-2 advantage in that series, with the sixth game scheduled for Friday.

Edmonton came into Thursday’s contest following a 4-1 victory at home in Game 5 on Tuesday, which occurred after the Ducks had secured three consecutive wins to establish a significant 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Further updates anticipated.
