The Ospreys have extended their apologies to the Scarlets, a fellow Welsh region, along with their recently onboarded investment partners, in response to a regrettable occurrence during a recent gathering with fans.
The region, based in Swansea, validated that during the question and answer segment of a supporters’ event held on September 23rd, a query submitted via a live application – “Are HOL fraudsters?” – was momentarily presented on the venue’s main display.
HOL is an acronym for the House of Luxury Group LLC, a luxury asset firm situated in the US, which declared its intention in August to procure a 55 per cent controlling interest in the Scarlets. This agreement, lauded as a pivotal juncture for Welsh regional rugby, has been promoted as offering immediate fiscal security to the Llanelli club.
Nevertheless, the Ospreys have now issued an apology subsequent to the distribution of photographs from the event – displaying the objectionable query in the background – across their social media platforms.

As per the Ospreys statement: “On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, we convened an evening dedicated to engaging with our supporters.
“To effectively manage the Q&A session, we employed an application enabling attendees to submit their inquiries. One participant posed the question, ‘Are HOL con artists?’, which was briefly presented on a prominent screen on the stage. Subsequently, photographs capturing the evening’s events, with this question visible in the backdrop, were disseminated through our social media channels.
“We extend our sincere apologies to the House of Luxury Group for any unease or disturbance caused by the dissemination of these photographs, to the House of Luxury Group Board, and all individuals affiliated with the company.”
This apology is issued a couple of months following the Scarlets’ announcement of what they termed a “new chapter” for the club through their collaboration with the House of Luxury, which has taken on operational leadership and financial obligations while striving toward a comprehensive equity transaction.
The agreement, spearheaded by David Moffett, former chief executive of both WRU and NZRU, features notable personalities such as Dan Biggar, a former Wales fly-half, and Leanne Batts, a NZ Rugby strategist. HOL has pledged to “transform” the Scarlets into a community and commercial hub, all while safeguarding the club’s legacy and the identity of west Wales.
The timing of the Ospreys’ mishap is inopportune, occurring amidst ongoing ambiguity concerning the fate of Wales’ quartet of professional regions. The Welsh Rugby Union is still deliberating on a proposition that might result in the reduction of professional sides to two after 2027.
