The Indiana Pacers are finalizing an agreement with Mac McClung, the celebrated dunk artist and a three-time NBA dunk contest victor, for a multiyear agreement, as reported by ESPN. This agreement signifies McClung’s inaugural standard NBA contract. The Pacers are anticipated to release James Wiseman, previously the No. 2 overall selection, to accommodate McClung on the team’s roster.

The 26-year-old guard, who was not drafted in the 2021 NBA draft after his time at Texas Tech, has participated in six NBA games across stints with the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers. Throughout these appearances, McClung has recorded averages of 5.5 points, 2.2 assists, and 2.3 rebounds, while maintaining a shooting accuracy of 43% from the field.

McClung’s performance in 2024 earned him the NBA G League MVP award while competing for the Osceola Magic. Moreover, he has earned All-NBA G League First Team recognition in each of the past two seasons. McClung’s prowess as a dunker has garnered considerable attention since his high school career.

In 2023, while on a two-way contract with the 76ers, McClung received an invitation to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, where his performances included nearly flawless scores of 50 on his dunk attempts. He ultimately prevailed over Trey Murphy III in the final round. McClung returned in 2024 and successfully defended his title, and secured a third consecutive title in 2025, marking the first time in NBA history that a player has achieved this feat. Nate Robinson stands as the only other player in NBA history to secure three dunk contest victories.

The Pacers are currently navigating a challenging 0-3 start to the season, following a 50-32 record last season that concluded with an appearance in the NBA Finals. Injuries have played a significant role in the team’s current circumstances, prompting the decision to enlist McClung’s assistance.
Tyrese Haliburton will be absent for the entirety of the season due to an Achilles injury sustained in June, and other players including Bennedict Mathurin (toe), Obi Toppin (hamstring), Andrew Nembhard (shoulder), Taelon Peter (groin) and Johnny Furphy (foot) are also sidelined with injuries.

The Pacers are slated to resume their schedule this Wednesday, with a road game against Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks.
