SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Jaycee Horn, the Carolina Panthers’ Pro Bowl cornerback, was declared unable to continue in Monday night’s 20-9 defeat against the San Francisco 49ers, following a concussion sustained near the end of the first two quarters.
Horn managed to intercept the ball twice during the initial half of the game. Lisa Salters of ESPN indicated that he was experiencing nausea on the sidelines following his second interception.
The Panthers announced just prior to the commencement of the latter half of the contest that Horn was undergoing concussion assessments.
Carolina managed to secure three interceptions from Brock Purdy, the 49ers’ quarterback, during the first half, yet they still entered the halftime interval with a 10-3 deficit. The Panthers marked themselves as the first team since the Cleveland Browns in 2021 to trail at halftime despite achieving three interceptions. This occurrence has only transpired twice in the preceding decade.
Following Horn’s departure, the 49ers successfully scored a touchdown on their first offensive series of the second half, with Christian McCaffrey, formerly a Panthers running back, executing a 12-yard run.
Corey Thornton, who substituted for Horn, was also sidelined in the latter stages of the third quarter due to an ankle injury.
