Paredes (Astros) Avoids Hamstring Surgery, Aims for Return

The Houston Astros’ celebrated third baseman, Isaac Paredes, has chosen to avoid an operation for what the squad characterized as a “serious” hamstring ailment, aspiring to rejoin the team’s active roster this year.

General manager Dana Brown addressed the verdict with the press on Monday. He conveyed that Paredes had the possibility of undergoing a surgical procedure that would mandate six months of recuperation, thus terminating his season, or choosing physical therapy, which would afford him the prospect of returning to the lineup while the Astros are situated to contend in the playoffs.

“He was presented with a pair of options – the option to undergo a surgical procedure or to pursue rehabilitation,” Brown stated, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. “He opted to rehab it. His entire perspective on this matter is that he desires to dedicate himself to endeavoring to return this season.”

Paredes incurred his injury during a game against the Seattle Mariners on July 19 while advancing on the base paths. He underwent several imaging sessions to ascertain the nature of the injury, which Brown characterized on Monday as a “serious hamstring strain.” Paredes also received a platelet-rich plasma injection and will persist in resting the injury prior to commencing a rehabilitation program.

Before his setback, Paredes maintained a batting average of .259/.359/.470, accompanied by 19 home runs and 50 runs batted in. His performance merited him his second career All-Star Game selection in July.

In light of Paredes’ injury, the Astros reinforced their infield by reacquiring shortstop Carlos Correa through a trade-deadline transaction with the Minnesota Twins. They also incorporated utility infielder Ramón Urías from the Baltimore Orioles.

Brown referred to the potential abundance of infielders, in the event of Paredes’ comeback, as “an advantageous predicament to encounter.”

Houston holds a record of 63-50, possessing a three-game advantage over the Seattle Mariners for the top spot in the AL West.
