Pep Guardiola has dismissed rumors regarding his longevity at Manchester City.
Recent media accounts indicated that the Spanish coach might be contemplating departing the Etihad Stadium once this season concludes, potentially ending a period of consistent achievement spanning ten years.
Enzo Maresca, currently with Chelsea, was cited as a potential successor, given his prior role as City’s assistant during their victorious treble season of 2022/23.
However, Guardiola firmly states he is not currently devising plans to leave, with a year and a half remaining on his current contract in the eastern part of Manchester.
“Over the past three or four years, I’ve been asked that same question repeatedly,” remarked the City boss.
“Eventually, perhaps when I reach 75 or 76, I will step down from City. I comprehend the query, but I still have 18 months remaining and I am extremely content.”
“This line of questioning arises annually, and I am perfectly fine with it.”
He further stated: “There are no conversations taking place – that is the end of the matter. I will not remain here forever, nor will any of us, but no discussions are happening.”
“Whatever transpires will transpire, and the club must be ready for any eventuality.”
“The club ought to be prepared, yet that particular topic is not currently under consideration.”
Manchester City has the potential to temporarily surpass current Premier League table-toppers Arsenal by securing a victory against West Ham at home this Saturday.
