Jack Pinnington Jones, representing Great Britain, has advanced to his inaugural ATP Tour quarter-final, extending his impressive streak at the Dallas Open.
The 22-year-old athlete, who had to navigate two qualifying rounds to secure a spot in the main tournament bracket, built upon his remarkable triumph against Italy’s world number 20, Flavio Cobolli, by defeating American player Eliot Spizzirri, thus securing a spot in the final eight.
Pinnington Jones, currently holding the 181st global ranking, conquered the 68th-ranked Spizzirri in a three-set match, with scores of 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, and 7-6 (7-4).
He is scheduled to compete against previous US Open victor Marin Cilic on Friday, vying for a position in the semi-final round.
Pinnington Jones concluded his collegiate junior year at Texas Christian University in May, yet decided not to re-enroll for his senior year, instead choosing to embark on a professional tennis career.
Following his initial qualifying match defeat at the Australian Open in January, Pinnington Jones advanced to the final of the Soma Bay challenger tournament in Egypt, prior to commencing his four consecutive match victories in Dallas.
His current performance is projected to elevate his world ranking by 43 positions, landing him at 138th globally after reaching the quarter-finals, and a win against Cilic could potentially place him among the top 110 players.
