Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell was hurt during Philadelphia’s Week 6 “Thursday Night Football” contest versus the New York Giants because of a hamstring issue, and he was unable to participate for the remainder of the game. In the first half, Mitchell suffered the injury. Initially, his return was uncertain. However, the Eagles quickly ruled him out.
This situation is troublesome for the Eagles, as defensive lineman Jalen Carter, a second-team All-Pro, was also absent. The third-year player from Georgia had a heel injury that appeared on Wednesday’s injury report. His participation was questionable leading up to the game, but he ultimately couldn’t play.
Mitchell’s absence is equally significant, possibly more so. The outside cornerback position on the other side of Mitchell has been a major source of uncertainty following Darius Slay’s departure for the Steelers and Isaiah Rodgers’ move to the Vikings. The Eagles brought in Adoree’ Jackson during the offseason, acquired Jakorian Bennett through a trade shortly before the season, and have used Kelee Ringo in that position. However, there hasn’t been a consistent solution. Cooper DeJean might also play outside, though his primary role is in the slot, and moving him would simply create a gap in the position he vacates.
The Eagles’ defense struggled as a whole in the first half, as the Giants concluded the half with 198 points and a halftime lead of 20-7.
