Raducanu Returns to US Open: ‘Happy Place’

Raducanu’s ascent to prominence was marked by an unforeseen triumph that resonated deeply within British sports, yet the ensuing period – specifically, the shift to a full-fledged presence on the WTA Tour and the intense public gaze – proved to be notably challenging.

Following her absence from the 2023 competition due to physical ailment, she participated again the following year, yet voiced concerns regarding her readiness following an initial-round defeat.

Raducanu struggled to contain her emotions following her defeat to Sofia Kenin, also a Grand Slam victor, expressing sentiments of “sadness” and dejection.

This year, she has returned to New York demonstrating renewed enthusiasm.

Displaying a more unburdened and satisfied demeanor, she has showcased some of her most compelling tennis performances since her US Open victory and is nearing a return to the upper echelons of the world’s top 30.

“I feel at ease, I feel content, and in a way, I experience the same sentiments off the court – deriving joy from my tennis, relishing practice sessions, enjoying competition, and embracing the journey of continual progress,” stated the former world number 10.

“I believe my feelings [resemble those of 2021] in that specific regard.”
