It seems Tyreek Hill hasn’t achieved enough in his career to garner the complete admiration from a legendary receiver.
While Hill is undoubtedly among the premier receivers of this time, Randy Moss, a Hall of Fame inductee known as one of the three best wideouts ever, apparently believes that the Dolphins’ wideout still needs to prove himself to join the all-time elite.
“He’s not among the all-time greats yet,” Moss stated to the South Florida Sun Sentinel recently. “Where does he rank now? Tyreek Hill is probably top five. I’d place him in the top five.”
While perhaps severe, Moss’ evaluation of Hill’s position among the greatest receivers of all time is reasonable, especially when Hill’s career statistics are compared to the most accomplished wideouts ever.
Hill, at 31, currently holds the 42nd spot for career receptions with 798, trailing Roddy White and slightly ahead of Zach Ertz. He also holds the 42nd spot for career receiving yards with 11,098, behind DeSean Jackson and ahead of Chad Johnson. His 82 career touchdowns are currently tied with Anquan Boldin and Reggie Wayne for 30th all-time.
Presently, Hill’s career numbers are not comparable to those of receivers like Moss or Jerry Rice, who many believe to be the greatest receiver of all time. However, this could change if Hill can maintain Pro Bowl-caliber performance for at least three more seasons before his career concludes.
Hill’s career path currently mirrors Antonio Brown’s trajectory as Brown entered his 31st year. While his single-season accomplishments were nearly unmatched, Brown needed additional seasons of strong performance to be definitively considered an all-time great. Sadly for Brown, that marked the start of a rapid decline that has jeopardized his potential Hall of Fame selection.
Hill has already achieved the single-season success necessary for future consideration. He even boasts two more Pro Bowl selections than Moss, and his single-season receiving yards record (1,799 in 2023) surpasses Moss’ best individual season by over 300 yards.
Hill’s performance in his 30s will largely dictate his ultimate legacy as an all-time great receiver. This knowledge could serve as added motivation for the 2025 season, as Hill and the Dolphins seek to recover from their underwhelming 2024 season.
