Rangers Hire Skip Schumaker as Manager

The Texas Rangers have formally introduced Skip Schumaker as their new field manager, the team confirmed on Friday. This announcement follows shortly after the team and previous manager Bruce Bochy, who notably guided Texas to their inaugural World Series championship in 2023, mutually decided to part ways.

“We are extremely pleased to announce this promotion and to have Skip at the helm of this team in the dugout,” expressed Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young in an official statement issued by the team. “Throughout his tenure this past year as a senior advisor to our baseball operations division, Skip has consistently demonstrated his dedication, enthusiasm, and meticulousness in all his endeavors. He possesses a strong competitive drive and vibrant energy, and we are very fortunate that someone of his esteemed reputation within the sport has accepted the position of our manager.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Skip and his family since his arrival to the organization last year, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming his wife Lindsey and the entire Schumaker family to the Metroplex.”

Schumaker, aged 45, takes on the role as the 21st manager in the team’s history. He previously held the managerial position with the Miami Marlins for a duration of two seasons, which included a 2023 season where he successfully led the team to 84 victories and a spot in the postseason. This accomplishment earned him the distinction of National League Manager of the Year. Subsequently, the Marlins, under new leadership, shifted towards a rebuilding phase, leading to Schumaker’s departure after a challenging 2024 season marked by 100 losses. Schumaker dedicated the recent season to serving as a senior advisor within the Rangers’ baseball operations department. Since his arrival to the organization, he was commonly viewed as the likely successor to Bochy.

“I am deeply honored and very excited to have this chance to manage the Rangers,” shared Schumaker in the aforementioned statement. “While I gained valuable knowledge of the organization through my role in the front office this past season, the discussions I’ve had this week with Chris Young, Ross Fenstermaker, and others have only reinforced my enthusiasm for this opportunity. I am eager to commence preparations for 2026.”

Schumaker is set to lead a Rangers team that boasts a blend of both emerging and experienced players. However, the team’s performance in 2025 fell short of expectations, as they concluded the season with an 81-81 record, placing them third in the American League West division.

Before his involvement in coaching, managing, and front-office roles, Schumaker played for 11 seasons as an infielder and outfielder in the major leagues, primarily with the St. Louis Cardinals.
