Reports indicate that Los Blancos have expressed interest in a central midfielder who had previously reached a preliminary agreement with the Red Devils during the recent transfer window.
The Old Trafford side demonstrated significant activity in the summer, investing heavily in acquiring talents such as Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens.
One specific area they aimed to reinforce was the central midfield position, ideally to complement Bruno Fernandes.
Los Blancos Consider Intercepting Key Red Devils Target
The Lisbon-based club were also scouting for reinforcements, and one name linked with a potential move was Javi Guerra, the Valencia midfielder.
According to journalist Daniele Longo’s posts on X, the 22-year-old had reached an understanding with the Premier League club in July. However, a transfer failed to materialize, as Guerra committed his future to Los Ches by signing a new contract extending to 2029.
However, this contract renewal has not deterred the Spanish giants, who are still believed to be keeping tabs on the midfielder who at one point seemed destined for the Theatre of Dreams.
According to sources at Defensa Central, the outfit managed by Xabi Alonso are contemplating a close observation of Guerra’s performances throughout the current season with a view to a potential acquisition in the future.
While the player’s new agreement incorporates a release clause of €100 million, reports indicate that Valencia might consider offers in the region of half that amount due to their financial challenges.
The Madrid-based news source also mentions that the Whites would be open to a straight player swap for Guerra, potentially involving Dani Ceballos, who is currently out of favor, but neither the player nor Valencia appear enthusiastic about such an arrangement.
According to perspectives in FourFourTwo, it is challenging for any club to outcompete Los Blancos in the transfer market, particularly when the target is a Spanish player based in Spain.
Considering this factor, as well as the varying positions of the Red Devils and the Whites in the European landscape, the likelihood of Guerra moving to M16 in the near future appears slim.
Nevertheless, the Red Devils did previously succeed in securing Leny Yoro, edging out the Whites by offering the French player assurances of a faster transfer and a quicker integration into the first team. Consequently, a potential move for Guerra is not entirely out of the question.
Guerra’s estimated market value stands at €25 million, as per Transfermarkt. The Red Devils are scheduled to face Manchester City in their next fixture as Premier League action resumes this weekend.
