Reds Walk-Off, End Brewers’ 14-Game Win Streak

The Brewers’ impressive 14-game winning spree concluded as the Cincinnati Reds defeated them in additional innings on Sunday.

With all bases occupied, Reds designated hitter Austin Hays drove the ball down the left-field line, allowing TJ Friedl to score the winning run in the 10th inning.

Cincinnati’s triumph halts the Brewers’ team-best winning sequence. It also prevented the Reds from being swept at their home field, as they had lost their leads in the initial two games of the three-game series.

Following a period of no scoring, the Reds were the first to score in the seventh inning when catcher Jose Trevino’s sacrifice fly enabled Hays to reach home, giving them a 1-0 advantage.

For a brief period, it appeared the Brewers might continue their late-game heroics when William Contreras blasted a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to seize a 2-1 lead.

However, Trevino delivered another crucial RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, keeping Cincinnati in contention and pushing the game into extra innings.

Pitcher Andrew Abbott performed strongly for the Reds, recording seven strikeouts in seven innings. The Brewers were unable to score until Abbott’s departure after the seventh. The Brewers gained the lead against Emilio Pagán, who conceded the go-ahead home run in the ninth inning to Contreras.

Had the Brewers prevailed, it would have been their third consecutive unlikely victory in the series. On Saturday, Milwaukee secured the win in extra innings due to several crucial defensive errors by the Reds. And on Friday, the Brewers rallied from an 8-1 deficit to secure a 10-8 victory.

Despite the setback, Milwaukee aims to maintain its strong performance this summer with a five-game road series against the Chicago Cubs this week, including a doubleheader on Monday.
