Report: Shot Fired at Andy Reid’s Office in 2024.

In 2024, an unidentified individual discharged a firearm, with the projectile impacting the office space of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid while he was present, according to information obtained by The Kansas City Star.

Reports indicate that neither Reid nor anyone else sustained injuries, but precautionary measures have been implemented, including the installation of bullet-resistant glass, as stated in the report. The Star, citing “multiple sources,” including a representative from the Kansas City Police Department, publicized on Wednesday that the event transpired in May of the previous year.

Per the report, Reid was working alone in his office at the Chiefs’ training complex subsequent to midnight on May 4, when an external assailant discharged a firearm, the projectile penetrating a window within his office. Subsequently, the bullet became embedded in the wall positioned between the entrance to Reid’s office and the adjacent bathroom, approximately 15 feet removed from Reid’s workstation, according to details within the report.

Prior to Wednesday, the shooting incident had not been previously documented or made accessible to the public.

Investigation remains in progress

KCPD representative Capt. Jacob Becchina communicated to The Star that at present, there have been no apprehensions made nor formal accusations presented, with an investigation currently underway. The Chiefs opted to abstain from furnishing commentary to The Star concerning the occurrence.

The motivation underlying the shooting incident continues to be uncertain.

“There is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization,” Becchina told the Star. “Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault.”

According to the report, two additional bullets struck the facility during the shooting. One impacted the third story, situated directly above Reid’s office on the second story. The other bullet struck an external air-conditioning mechanism.

Kansas City’s training facility is located within the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, which is centrally positioned between the Chiefs’ home stadium at Arrowhead Stadium and Kaufmann Stadium, the home field of the Kansas City Royals. The facility is also the location of the Chiefs’ administrative and corporate offices.

Reid, age 67, has been the head coach for the Chiefs spanning 12 seasons. Throughout his tenure, he has guided the Chiefs to five Super Bowl appearances, claiming victory in three Super Bowl contests within the previous six seasons. At the time of the shooting, he was three months removed from leading the Chiefs to a Super Bowl triumph against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs are now engaged in preparations for their concluding preseason exhibition game against the Chicago Bears on Friday. Their regular season campaign will commence in São Paulo against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5.
