The head coach for Spain’s Women’s Sevens team, María Ribera, has implemented four roster adjustments for her Las Leonas contingent heading to Montevideo and São Paulo for the HSBC SVNS 2 event.
Carlota Caicoya, Ana Cortés, María Calvo [making her comeback from a significant knee injury], and Amets Ulibarri are all new additions to the team. During their previous outing in Kenya, the squad secured a bronze medal, placing third after South Africa and Argentina.
Their tournament performance concluded with victories over China, Brazil, and Kenya. However, defeats inflicted by South Africa and Argentina resulted in the team earning the third-place position.
Spain’s participation in this weekend’s competition in Uruguay is set to commence with a match against South Africa, followed by encounters with Brazil and Kenya to wrap up the first day. The second day will see the squad face Argentina and China, with aspirations of achieving a better outcome than their previous showing.
Following the conclusion of this weekend’s tournament in Montevideo, all twelve participating teams are scheduled to proceed to São Paulo for the ultimate stage of the SVNS 2 competition.
Attaining a position within the top four of the cumulative standings guarantees the teams qualification for the HSBC SVNS World Championship events hosted in Hong Kong, Valladolid, and Bordeaux.
